Social Security takes protecting your personal information seriously.
They would like to warn you about telephone scammers pretending to be government employees. Do not be fooled! The caller says there is a problem with your Social Security number or account. Scammers may threaten you to provide personal information and may demand immediate payment to avoid arrest or other legal action.
You can watch a video describing the scam and how to protect yourself here.
Please NEVER give out your personal information such as your bank account or send payment in any form, such as retail gift cards, cash, wire transfers, or pre-paid debit cards.
